I don't usually read thrillers (don't read much fiction at all really) but "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" by Stieg Larsson is really good. It's the first of a trilogy.

I've had several people tell me that the late Stieg Larsson's stuff was really good.

Apparently he finished the trilogy in 2004, gave the lot to his publisher, then suddenly dropped dead aged 50 before the books came out.

I'll go and get the other two tomorrow. Definitely worth reading.

Yeah, his trilogy is a tad more intelligent than your average political thriller...

My all-time favourite work of fiction is the King James Bible, shortly followed by Shakespeare's other works.   eyebrow

Chamberlain, Joshua Lawrence (1915). The Passing of the Armies: An Account of the Final Campaign of the Army of the Potomac, Based upon Personal Reminiscences of the Fifth Army Corps. New York: G.P. Putnam's Sons. ISBN 0553299921

first rate

Professor Chamberlain, a seminary graduate, is one of the best writers ever.  He was a real wordsmith.

Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain (September 8, 1828 – February 24, 1914) was an American college professor from the State of Maine, who volunteered during the American Civil War to join the Union Army. Although having no earlier education in military strategies, he became a highly respected and decorated Union officer, reaching the rank of brigadier general (and brevet major general). For his gallantry at Gettysburg, he received the Medal of Honor. He was given the honor of commanding the Union troops at the surrender ceremony for the infantry of Robert E. Lee's Army at Appomattox, Virginia. After the war, he entered politics as a Republican and served four one-year terms of office as the 32nd Governor of Maine. He served on the faculty of, and as president of, his Alma mater, Bowdoin College.

/he originally taught the Classics, Latin & Ancient Greek
He and his horse, Charlemagne, were both shot multiple times. Chamberlain had the pleasure of reading his own obituary in the New York Times no less than 3 times

That was very popular here a few years ago. For some reason I never got round to reading it.
